I will admit that the cvs tricks would be annoying; it might be better to make a 2.2 branch rather than back stuff out, if you go that route. But it was that way before and I'm going to respect that. Thanks everyone. PHP is a (mostly) complete programming language (well, not quite, but you get my point) that doesn't need shell garbage around it to be functional. You should keep in mind that your extension settings should match all the settings of the PHP executable you are using.
